No charges

Farha - everything is free in the Uk as it should be - this is the philosophy of the National Health Service (NHS) - care according to need not fund

The only thing people pay for is services that are unrelated to health such as plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons (burns etc are free) and IVF treatment although this is being increasingly funded and 1 cycle is provided for almost all couples without children. Who isn't funded is more complicated but they will not ask this and I suggest you do not mention it or worry any longer about funding.

I've changed the title of your post to ensure people, other than those interested in amniocentesis, read this.

I suppose one of the other very few procedures most patients have to pay for, is reversal of sterilisation, which is something you should mention when you counsel someone about sterilisation. Reversal is usually only offered privately and is quite expensive.
