I think at your stage Raj the intention should be to beef up your CV. And decide which way you're going, at least between gynae and obstetrics as it will make the difference to your ATSM selection and your subsequent proffesional development.
As for me, I'm finally accepted for the MSc in Gynae endoscopy and I'm starting there in October! Very Happy Very Happy

The info was actually sought by one of my friends from Bangalore, Raj!! He wants to do "something atleast" from the UK and was considering this. Yeah, I did log onto the website sometime back-- but it looked too much like a theoritical course with very less clinial/hands on. Looks expensive too.

I wonder what Wolverine's Endoscopy Msc costs and is like/? Or is the trust/deanery funding it sort of?

any course that your friend tries in the UK will require the following....

1. visa -- this is currently a problem for overseas doctors.

2. course fees --- will be much higher, as he will be an overseas / non national student and the fees can be anything from 3 times to 10 times, depending on what course he is looking at.

3. gmc registration --- if it is a clinical course with need to be in touch with patients, he will need to write to gmc to see what sort of registration he will require and if he will be given registration in the first place.

i do hope things work out for your friend.

We also have a Masters Course in ART at Nottingham which I lecture / examine on!

I think it was one of the first if not the first in the UK.

Lead is Professor Bruce Campbell.

Hi Cpeed. The MSc in gynae endoscopy costs £630 per module. There are 8 modules for the diploma plus 1 more plus the dissertation for the MSc award almost £7000 in total. This are the prices for UK trainees. For the overseas I think it shoots up to £9000 There maybe some funding (up to 50%) if you are a member of the BSGE for over 2 years.

Not sure of the exact prices for MSc in ART but th overseas prices are much higher than the UK prices - this was enforced by the University I think. Of the top of my head could be as much as £16-18K for overseas. Funding options do exist but you have to bid and compete. My research fellows wife got one last year so I will ask her.

It appears the ART one is more but it opens more doors for UK work as many clinicians retrain as embryologists or go on to do a PhD. Also it is a full years taught course and not a series of modules. You also have to do a dissertation and 3 month project plus ou are exmained throughout and viva'd at the end - very robust therefore and a good, recognised qualification.

How is the MSc in MAS considered wolverine? How many people fail it and what does the qualification actually mean? I never like things you can 'pay for' but do understand this is the nature of such courses.

I don't think there any graduates yet Nick as the whole thing started 2 years ago so the first lot is just about to finish with their last module. I heard that a few people dropped it either because they couldn't meet the competencies for the first year or they changed their career plan.

Tell you what - when you get started and learn more could you set up a new thread in this Forum and let us all know what is involved and how it I going? It sounds like something more and more people will do.

Cardiff also have a MSc - in gynae ultrasound I think.
