TRUE

Early tumor stage without tumor necrosis,
age <50 years,
and absence of vascular space involvement are independently associated with good prognosis.
Mitotic count is a strong prognostic parameter in early tumor stage, but fails to act as an independent prognostic parameter in patients with tumor stage II-IV disease.
Advanced stage tumors and presence of tumor necrosis are independent poor prognostic factors.
The mean 5-year disease-free survival rate is 55% but is only 21% in patients with the presence of any one or both of these two factors

ref -- Purandare CN, Walavalkar RP. Cancer and Fibroids. Book chapter. Fibroids. pg 154-169. Federation of O&G Societies of India publication. 2006 Jan.
(may not be good enough for the college as it is an indian publication)

the logic behind the premenopausal bit is that...

premenopausally the uterine muscle is 'active' smooth muscle responding to Oe and P. tumors in premeno group hence usually tend to be hormone dependent and cells are closer in their make up to normal ut smooth muscle cell. and will respond to chemo

postmenopausally, there are no hormones to stimulate, hence tumor cells tend to be more towards the squamous type of cell when a malig starts. exactly like that in Ca endo or adeno vs schirrus Ca breast.

this is based on observation and some papers are available but i guess to be conclusive more research will be needed

does that make sense??

so i guess it's true coz i say so Wink Wink Laughing Cool

1 acute inversion of uterus is more common in twin than singleton. False

2 neonatal respiratory distress syndrome is characteristically increased following prolonged intrauterine hypoxia. False

this is so because prolonged hypoxia makes the foetal lungs mature faster, i.e preecclampsia

3. a 2yr old, with persistent vag discharge causing vulval irritation and staining and bld stained discharge: an examination under anaesthesia is required. TRUE

my first gut feeling was true, but is this not the mcq from pickersgill? i think the book says it's false

4. recognized cause of galactorrhea include acromegaly? TRUE

5. increased failure rate in female sterlization if performed at the same time as termination of pregnancy? TRUE

6 female sterlization is commonest contraception used by those with completed family? FALSE

7. clomiphene citrate will induce ovulation in women with wt related amenorrhoea? FALSE

this has been previously discussed on the forum, check the explanation there

8 regarding menopause,
a frequency of micturation is a characteristic symptom? FALSE

it is a symptom but not characteristic

b. atrophic changes in vagina commonly present with pruritis. FALSE
dryness is more common than pruritus

c. obese women are more symptomatic than thin?True

data from Study of Women's Health Across the Nation, American Journal of Epidemiology.

women were more likely to experience symptoms if they were older, had a lower educational level, had difficulty paying for basic needs, smoked, got less exercise than their peers, or had a high body mass index.

9. HRT is associated with a decrease in factor VIII conc? TRUE

HRT was associated with significantly decreased levels of fibrinogen, factor VIII, antithrombin III, and proteins C and S, but significantly increased plasminogen levels. This explains the increased rate of venous thrombotic events

10 recognized features of pelvic endometriosis include anovulatory cycles. TRUE

both endometriosis and anovulation are hyper oestrogenic states and anovulation is an associated feature with endometriosis. i don't know if endo is a cause for anovu or just an association. i'll say association due to hormonal imbalance that goes with it.

11 genital prolapse prevented by HRT. False

12 acute tubo ovarian abscess is associated with, bacteraemia? TRUE

classicaly cases have been reported associated with pneumococcal pneumonia and sepsis

14 dermoid are lined by squamous epithelium? True

the histo mix of tissue will depend on the site of the dermoid too.

15 abdominal distension occurs more often in association with mechanical obstruction than with paralytic ileus? True

b. atrophic changes in vagina commonly present with pruritis. True
dryness is more common than pruritus but pruritus is still common.
10 recognized features of pelvic endometriosis include anovulatory cycles I'd say True only because of the word "recognised" although I would very much like to say false

OK guys - this has to stop.

pass07 you need to read the guidelines I have posted here.

I do not want and will not allow people to post a series of questions from the Past Paper book. This thread is a good example. It offers limited if any learning opportuity as you have asked so many unrelated questions.

By all means post a question and discuss this but this site will not become a translation of the RCOG Past Paper book - you are essentially breeching copyright.

Talk about sterilisation in one thread and twins in another but try to go deeper than one or two questions from the book. This is how you will pass the exam. By reading around the subject.

This way people will be able to search and learn about a topic in years to come. If you want lists of true / false answers there are plenty of ohter sites I can recommend Wink

I hope that makes sense.

Any more posts like this one will be deleted even if people have responded and answered.

This thread confuses the reader rather than informs him / her and after much considersation I have decided to close it. Sad

There is simply too much information, different answers, unreasoned answers, and overall I am lost as I guess are many other members.

As an example ...

This is true according to two 1970s papers in Dewhurst!

Survival is dependent on stage and the number of mitotic figures.

Raj's explanation, as always, is an excellent one that is referenced and provides everyone with confidence in the answer. New members and people joining in months / years to come will not be able to find the information however.

Several other answers are wrong however.
