What do you think about the new RCOG EMQ book then?
I had a look at it this weekend and would be interested to see what you think about the quality and whether you rate it as a good revision aid.
Maybe we can discuss this again when the exam is over and we have had our first experience of these Extended Matching Questions.
We have a book in progress but I do not expect it to be finalised until next year. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |

hi nick,
the book is ok. it did give an idea about the type of questions but was not a very satisfying practice exercise. sample emqs are too few to give any real practice. but i guess some thing is better than nothing .

Any key questions you suggest I cover for the EMQ Solutions Course in 2 weeks time?
I'm ploughing my way through the key topics I think will come up but open to suggestions. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |

A couple of you showed me a few incorrect questions from this book at the recent EMQ Solutions Course.
One that is clearly wrong relates to statisitics and asks about the prevalence of a disease. You are given a 2 x 2 table and they take the wrong denominator - they take those with disease that tested positive when they should have taken all of those with disease.
I do not have the book so if you want to post the page and more specific details please do. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |

Hi guys
So pleased you picked up on the wrong stats question. I noticed this but had no one to clarify it with.. I will dig out the book and try to post some more info on the wrong and right bits... Very annoyed - as the book is so short you think they could have checked it (It only takes a couple of hours to do the whole book!!)
OVerall the book is a good buy/borrow especially if you arent familiar with EMQs like (I wasnt and liked the book)

I also found some errors in the TOG article which had some EMQs in.
Have you seen and read this? |
