A Top Tip for the OSCE
On the 23rd August 2006 the Healthcare Commission released a report calling for strict safety checks in all UK maternity units. The Report was commissioned in response to the investigation into the high rate of maternal deaths between 2002 and 2005 at Northwick Park Hospital. The commission was highly critical of maternity services at this unit and identified common factors which they felt resulted in substandard care.
It is absolutely essential that we all read this report and ensure we are aware of the key recommendations. It is highly likely that you could be asked about this in one way or another in the OSCE but even if you are not it is an invaluable document.
The RCOG, aware of the issues at this Trust and the HCC investigation, actually held a Study Group called “Safe Maternity Care” in April of this year. The key points from this Study Day and those of the HCC report will be discussed at a Multi-disciplinary Open Meeting on the 23rd November at the College. Click here for further details or here to download the programme.
So download a copy of the HCC's Report and get reading! _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997

Suggestion ...
Why don't you post your opinions' and take home messages from this Report here? We can assimilate them into a structured answer for the OSCE or maybe next years Short Essays.
Just an idea _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |
