Hi Nick,
As I told you, I appeared in the part II in March and had pass marks in the short essay questions , but did not score enough in the MCQ and EMQ one. The feed back form the College does not specify if it'f the EMQ or MCQ..
How exactly should I go about preparing this time?

Besides, Is there any combined course for EMQ and MCQ ( other than ABC in O & G) ?

Well, the feed back they gave shows a graph with my essay marks... b/t 50-52. The pass is shown as above 49.

And the MCQ- EMQ combined, my score being b/t 68-70 and the pass being above 70. I dont know if I didnt score enough in MCQ or EMQ.

hi vani,

as i see it you may have been short by 2-3 marks. though you scored more in the essays it may not have been high enough to fill the gap in mcqs.

practice ur mcqs -- past papers, pickersgill, stratog.

for emq's -- it helped me to make my own on the forum. that way your mind works emq mode whenever you read. also do the emq course with nick, he covers so many topics that i don't think you'll have more to do. do the college book too they are bound to ask atleast 1/2 from there, these r ur sure marks.

hope that helps.

If the essays contribute to 60% and the MCQs+EMQs contribute to 40%>>> this mean you score 58.2 % in the whole exam Arrow >>> The pass mark of the college can be calculated as 59.1

as you got in the EMQs+MCQs= 27.6
the passmark= 28.4
It is a matter of 0.8

Which trial is this for you Vani ??

Sorry vani s - not seen this post before.

Best Course for you would be ABC as we do some essays but really concentrate on knowledge which is the key to passing the EMQ / MCQ.

The EMQ Course ("Solutions") is another option as Raj says and there is a technique to EMQs that we teach you.

Otherwise do as Raj says - practice by doing your own questions (use the Forum) and going throuigh any books / past questions you may have.

It is essential that you have read and fully understand all the Guidelines of course and that you know and understand all the correct answers to the RCOG Past Paper book - we do this on our Past Paper MCQ Course and also go through the background and therefore other related questions.

Am unable to decide that if I can take one course EMQ or MCQ.. which one should I ? As I really don't know which one did I do bad...I liked the EMQ's but dont know if I did them right.

Nick, does ABC cover Past paper book completely?

Hi vani s,
I think that I did very badly on the EMQs and MCQs. I found them tricky and wasn't sure what answer to put for most of the EMQs.
I don't think there is a good way to revise for them.

However...... I think the trick is to concentrate mostly on the essays. If you pass them well (and they are EASY to revise for via this forum) then you will easily pass with the knowledge you alreasy have.

I hardly looked at the MCQ part to this forum as it mostly made me confused and I think people get bogged down in little details that can only get them one mark. (and I am the forum's BIGGEST fan Laughing)

If you want good advice.. pass the essays well and don't worry so much about the MCQs!

I agree with Abi (maybe I'm boring agreeing with her all the time but I can't do otherwise here..).
1 mark in the essays equals 3 correct MCQs!! Therefore, maybe on the feedback graphs that you recieved you appeared to have failed in the MCQs/EMQs but actually you could have overcome this with maybe only just one mark from the essays! I would practice more on that vani, how not to drop easy marks and TF courses and the forum is very good at that!
Abi is right too for tha MCQ forum. pages and pages and thousands of knackered keyboards for topics that they are usefull to know but they are a bit too much for the purpose pf the exam! Your knowledge is more than adequate to do OK in the MCQs.
For the EMQs I remember it was the part that you enjoyed most from the exams. I did as well but I don't know how it went. Most of my answers were the "j" ones (you should see Abi's face when I told her that on our way out...). My advice here would be to read the scenario carefully and then take all the options one by one and see if they fit or not. And use your time cleverly.

Hi Raj,
What weight will you give to Strat OG in preparing for this exam. Should you read all modules or some specific ones.

well, i read all of them once and did all mcq's that they had, they do put things in perspective exam wise and are pretty uptodate,

but as we practiced towards the end me and my study mates found quite a few factual errors in them.

they are good to go thru if you already have them

Hi Abik N Wolverine,

I guess you both are very right. Because even I dont feel very gr8 or confident about MCQ"s n EMQ's.

And I feel essay are something I can work on... instead of Mcq N Emq's... which have so many controversies..
Thanks .
