We have been reliably told that Question 1 in the Obstetrics paper was something like ...
A 39-year old nulliparous woman presents with a haemaglobin of 8.5 g/dL in association with heavy periods. An ultrasound scan reveals a 14 week size fibroid uterus.
What things would affect your management? (4 marks)
Evaluate the non-surgical options? (8 marks)
Evaluate the surgical options? (8 marks)
Nice question. Again pretty straightforward stuff you should be comfortable with as a 3rd year SpR (that's what you are supposed to be if you did not know ).
You can get some of the NICE recommendations in there.
Clearly her nulliparity leaves the door open for the conservative approach but I wonder if there were any marks for MRI-guided ultrasound! _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |

Sorry but specifically which NICE recommendation? You mean The initial management of Menorrhagia (RCOG)?
Thank you.
