You clean up the ends and realign and rejoin the muscular component of the tube. You then join the mesosalpinx and tubal serosa. This can be done via laparotomy when an operative microscope is used or laparoscopically so ...

Either but few (I believe) have the skills to do this endoscopically

Depends on the route of course but around 2-3 hours

£4500? not on NHS of course

Depends on route so week for laparoscopy or 6 for laparotomy - its the incision that one needs to recover from.

I believe all laparoscopic surgery offers is less stay in hospital and a quicker return to work (from recent SCAR Study) - there is no reduction in the number of adhesions. Outcome should be the same as it is for other laparoscopic procedures but proponents of the endoscopic approach will always favour their approach in terms of success however that is measured: tubal patency, pregnancy, livebirth etc.

Click here for the original paper on behalf of the SCAR group.
