Research grant for an education project on the content, delivery or assessment of the new Specialty Training Curriculum
PMETB has approved the College’s Specialty Training Curriculum, which will be implemented from August 2007. It is important for the College to ensure that the educational resources and assessment tools that support the Curriculum are effective, deliverable, valid and reliable. The College’s aim is to produce trainees of the highest quality who will become the consultants of the future delivering safe services. With this objective, we intend to provide a research grant to an individual or group wishing to develop educational material related to the new Curriculum, or validation measures for its assessment tools. This is an important initiative sponsored by the College in order to enhance training and also to reassure PMETB and our stakeholders (patients) that our training programmes are robust and our assessment techniques valid.
The College therefore invites applications from Fellows and Members for research projects designed to enhance the content, delivery or assessment of the new Specialty Training Curriculum. It should be noted that projects may relate also to educational and assessment processes which extend beyond the specialty training programme, and which concern the recertification and revalidation of consultants. The grant will be to a maximum of £100,000 in value over a period of two years.
Applications must include: the aims and objectives of the research, the research methodology, the expected outcomes, the participants, the estimated costs and duration, and details of all resources that will be required. Priority will be given to applications which involve the production of educational materials that may be delivered electronically or to validation measures of the assessment tools which will be accepted by PMETB. The project must be completed within two years of receiving the grant.
Applications should not exceed four sides of A4, and should reach Professor S Arulkumaran FRCOG, Vice President (Education), by 14 September 2007. _________________ Dr Miss. Raj Walavalkar MBBS MRCOG
