Hi guys!
I have been thinking about the OSCE's (obviously). I think I will leave major preparation until after the course. To be honest, I'm not really sure how to prepare anyway - I guess just gentle reminders of the guidelines/ stagings etc.
I saw this from Nick;
| Quote: | I am also surprised that there were no essay questions on delivery / intrapartum care, colposcopy and the BSCCP guidelines, menstrual disorders, or infertility. You can expect these topics to feature in the OSCE.
|
Maybe it will help to focus?
I am missing the interaction of the forum. Is there any way of debating like we did with the essays Nick? |

I agree that all these are hot topics.
- Intraparum care (i.e. describe instrumental delivery, management of fetal bradycardia etc)
- Colposcopy/cervical screening (a woman with ?CGIN on smear?)
- Menstrual disorders
- Infertile couple
- VBAC (have you seen the new RCOG guideline? very interesting!)
I also noticed that some November OSCEs were similar to the essays (counselling a woman after laparotomy for perforation after ERPC, is that right?) What about counselling a woman with a fistula after hysterectomy then? |

What I'm planning to do before the course is practise my history taking technique with Bertha and revise the guidelines and the patient information leaflets on the RCOG website. And after the course what about doing our wessex circuits the three of us Abi and Raj! Practice, practice and practice.
Where is Raj by the way? Get well Raj! |

Has there ever been a communication skills station on something like resolving disagreement with midwives, difficult SHO, delegating tasks etc?
You never know, RCOG is full of surprises. |

Hi Guys -
Good luck for the OSCE's, pleased I'm not having to do that again..! Remember though its a high pass rate so you should be ok- its still stressful though!
Nick has a good way of prioritising the LW board so wait for the course before you try to revise this..
Be aware though there hasnt been a LW board for about 5 exams now I think.. Certainly not the last 4.

Not as far as I am aware but a question like this is more likely to form part of an answer (as in a labour ward board prioritisation question or structured viva) than as a whole question on its own.
To be honest you just deal with it as you do a difficult patient. This will often get them to see your side (good if you are right therefore) but ultimately you have to take responsibility and delegate / make decisions. Always do it away from earshot and in as positive a manner as possible. Document the discussion and speak to the persons line manager if there is a problem or failure to resolve the situation. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |
