hi hopeful,

congrats on having your poster selected.

here are a few things I'll recommend --

1. get the recommended dimensions correct.

2. make sure you have the following headings so as not to miss out anything --
Title
Summary of the project
Introduction
Methodology section
Results section
Conclusion section
Further Work

3. add more graphs and photos etc and dont clutter it with text -- Poster = Visual.

4. go for a pale background colour and dark colour lettering.

5. go for a legible font and text size

6. i think Microsoft has a 'poster maker' inbuilt with in the powerpoint - you can get tips from there.

7. usually medical photography dept of your hospital will make these at a small fee - ask them

8. make sure you have at least 2 copies of the poster and carry a soft copy on your pen-drive so that you can take a urgent print somewhere else if things go wrong.

9. spell check and spell check again and then get your boss to spell check yet again.

10. don't print unless totally happy with the soft copy.

11. be ready for possible questions and answers.

hope this helps. if i think of any more important issues will add later.

hello hadia,

welcome to the forum. your understanding about the poster is correct. the reference to power point is that the microsoft power point programme also gives tips on poster presentation.

hope this helps

Welcome Hadia

You are 100% right but the single page is a single powerpoint slide. You have to magnify the slide to 100-400% to create it.

Always best to use someone else's as a template.

Few tips:

1. use the guides and snap the text boxes and images to these guides

2. limit text as much as possible and try to use figures, graphs and tables to explain your methods and results.

3. 1-3 key references at the most

4. print the poster out 'n' times and keep these in a plastic A4 envelope next to the poster (use a drawing pin to hold) so interested people can take a copy.

5. look at other peoples posters (especially the one that wins) to get an idea of what is possible - choose your favourite and, when no one is looking or with the permission of the author, take a photo. Use this to devise your poster / your next poster

6. (this is the key one) make sure your work is good enough to be accepted as an oral and then you doon't have to prepare the bloody thing!! Very Happy

Sorry missed this: I would keep it and eventually put it on the wall of your office / corridor. I throw most of ours but keep the best ones for the department. Why did you have to pay anyway?
