Dear Nick & Julian

Is there anything in particular we should read before the OSCE theory course next weekend? I'm struggling with preparing for the OSCE & just can't seem to get started.
Any tips/ direction would be much appreciated. Cool

B

We will cover almost eveything you need to know next week in the Theoretical Course. We will show you how to address almsot every type of role play question and how to handle the preparatory stations. These are all quite tricky to practice until you see our recommended approach but the best thing to do is to get together with someone, doesn't have to be another candidate, and get used to taking histories and counselling people about diagnoses / treatment options in 14 minutes. Time is extremely important as with the essays so you need to familiarise yourself with what is achievable in the time you have.

The one area where we give you direction but where you need to do further research is 'result interpretation'. There is no way we can cover every possible result so we show you a few and explain how to present your answer to the examiner. A good thing to do therefore is to ensure you are up to date with the latest evidence base for treatment and that you can interpret results i.e. understand what they mean and know what treatments are available. Guidelines are a good place to start and do not forget key publications such as the CTG and smear / colposcopy guidance.

One thing you could do, with help from your Forum colleagues, is to post a list of possible results you could be asked. I'll start you off ... click here to see some of the things we think may come up.
