It is not cured but amiliorated because by aspiration we will get rid of inflamatory mediators..therefore, the condition improves....

Few important words here ...
cured - a bit like the word always in that it is almost always false! Nothing cures really
Follicular aspiration (I presume they / you mean oocyte collection) does not affect the incidence or severity of OHSS. This relates to hCG and luteal support. Any pregnancy (and multiple pregnancy especially) considerably increase the risk and severity of OHSS as does the use of hCG for luteal support. It is still increased with progestogen support but less so. The best treatment is to avoid OHSS and this involves cycle cancellation prior to the administration of hCG for oocyte maturation (36 hours before oocyte collection) or not putting the embryos back if you have gone past this point. Identifying high risk patients (PCO, past OHSS, young slim women etc) and modifying their treatment protocol (low dose FSH, antagonist cycles, and now IVM) is the best treatment / prophylaxis. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |
