MMC have just updated their website with some new FAQ's. Check the link below www.mmc.nhs.uk/pages/home.
It's fairly useful given everything that's about to happen, so give it a try even if you can't connect to it directly. |

And here is the latest from the RCOG ...
| Quote: | The year 2007 is a landmark year of change to the new specialty training programmes in all disciplines of medicine. The agenda for Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) was set two years ago with the Foundation programme – the first and second years of training after qualifying from medical school.
The Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) was established by statute in September 2005 to set standards and quality assure specialty training. The impact of these changes has resulted in the new specialist training and education programmes beginning in August 2007.
For the first time, thousands of doctors interested in training in a particular specialty or in general practice will apply to the national Medical Training Application System (MTAS).
Each doctor is permitted 4 choices, eg. it is possible to apply to be a trainee in 1 specialty in 4 Deaneries, in 2 specialties in 2 Deaneries, or 4 specialties in 1 Deanery.
This year recruitment in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be for the first 3 years of training – ST1, ST2 and ST3.
The training in O&G will be for a period of 7 years, from ST1 to ST7.
The person specifications for these posts, the summary of the 7 years of training including subspecialty and academic training, and the draft curriculum of core training including the logbook are on the College website, via the link 'New Specialty Training and Education Programme'.
A team of experts has helped us with the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), which are also posted on the website. Please advise potential applicants to visit this site for more information |

Some more from the College...
| Quote: | The implications of MMC and the new specialty training programmes are occupying a considerable amount of time and effort. Understandably, many trainees are anxious. We are keen to aid a smooth transition and will continue to monitor the situation. We will try to ensure good and diverse opportunities, with career pathways that suit the individual and fulfil the needs of tomorrow's NHS.
The RCOG remains very concerned about the effect of MMC on International Medical Graduates. We continue to make representations on their behalf, not only in support of those doctors who already working in the UK, but also on behalf of those who are keen to gain time-limited experience in the UK in the future. If there is any news we will make sure that it is communicated speedily via the RCOG website.
