This actually turned out to be one the hardest mocks we have set for some time now.
I'm a little suprised to be honest.
As a group you did perform better than most over the weekend and really seemed to grasp the concept and the Teale Fenning approach. You were also quite knowledgeable. I did mean this when I said it you see
What suprises me more, and concerns me to some degree, is that you collectively did very badly on the assisted vaginal delivery question -
This was based on basic Obstetric practice and should have been a high scoring essay for all of you. The marking scheme was not difficult so I am not sure why the overall mark was as low as people scored on our Twin to Twin Transfusion question from earlier this year!!
This is something you need to ask yourselves. Please take time to read your essays back and to look in detail at the marking schemes. Ask yourself why you dropped / missed points and try to ensure you address these areas - they are often repetitive throughout your essays.
Overall, do not despair if you did poorly and do no rejoice or relax if you did well or even if you got a medal!! This is just, as the name suggests, a MOCK exam and you have plenty of time to put what we have taught you into practice and make sure September (or more importantly, early October in fact) is a great month!!

Dear Nick/ Julien
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback following the mock SAQ exam. This does give useful insight into areas which need more attention before 2 Sept. Can you make any suggestions as to how I should focus my attention over the next few weeks leading up to the exam? I`m not sure whether I should be practising MCQ`S/ EMQ`S or writing SAQ`s and working full time as well. _________________ Louis Angelopoulos

Hi Louis
Our recommendation is always as follows:
1. know your Guidelines (green top, consent, other RCOG, NICE etc)
2. read the summary points for each chapter of the Confidential Enquiries
3. focused reading on areas you are weak in such as adolescent gynaecology, sickle cell or thyroid disease in pregnancy - use TOG, OGRM (formerly COG), Progress, Recent Advances etc
... not forgetting the most important thing ...
4. practice your essays ... 6-8 plans and a few full 26 minute essays
Good luck |
