|
|
hi all,
the gmc is having to look in to it's registration process with the change in system.
check this link for details -- http://www.gmc-uk.org/doctors/new_framework/index.asp
what i gathered from this is --
limited registration is being abolished.
provisional registration for foundation drs only
all getting registration for the first time will work under 'approved practice setting'
anyone who has completed Foundation training or has equivalent or more experience should apply for full registration directly
requirements are acceptable primary medical qualification, fitness to practise, have demonstrable knowledge ans skills, knowledge of English
above can be achieved via -- pass in the PLAB test, Sponsorship by a medical Royal College or other sponsoring body for further postgraduate training, An acceptable postgraduate qualification, Eligibility for entry in the Specialist or GP Register.
so basically -- not a big change, just different nomenclature.
but what this does is, candidates who have already passed plab can apply for registration straight even if they don't have a job in hand.
this does not solve the visa for work issue though.
any comments? _________________ Dr Miss. Raj Walavalkar MBBS MRCOG

It wont solve any problem.
Basically the GMC would have lost considerable amount of funds in terms of registration fee if the original clause about "registration only upon obtaining a job" was continued.
By making this slight amendment GMC is trying to secure that registration fee from even those who have only passed PLAB(or Sponsorship / postgraduate qualification/ Eligibility for entry in Specialist or GP Register) but not yet obtained a job.
Good strategy by the GMC though! |
