rubella

as the only other thing is parvo which fits maternal symptoms but it doesnt cause catarat or ASD

no ante-natal care - so maybe she wasnt screened for rubella earlier

Yes this is Rubella but I wonder if there were more details in the question? Was this from Sep-08 Exam?

Also there must have been more options? Can anyone remember them?

We have an excellent set of EMQs on this subject which I did on the ABC and EMCQ Courses so I hope those who attended felt confident and got these right. Cool

I would go for Rubella as we have cataract (which = Rubella until proven otherwise) and cardiac manifestations. CMV and Toxo also cause cataracts but not cardiac disease as far as I am aware or at least not classicially. Rubella often causes peripheral pulmonary arterial disease I think and PDA of course but ? ASD.

This is another good point.

Parvovirsu does not have a congenital syndrome. It does lead to non-immune hydrops and anaemia due to BM suppression though.

Hi

Why not syphilis?
it can cause rash, flue like illness, ASD and cataract ?
all are features of secondary syphilis. Question
