Here are the Examination Regulations for the Part 1 Examination from the RCOG website.
Candidates are eligible to enter for the Part 1 examination when they have obtained their medical degree. However, candidates are advised to attempt the examination only after they have had some grounding in postgraduate obstetrics and gynaecology.
The acceptance of a candidate's application to attempt the Part 1 examination does not imply acceptance of a subsequent or coincidental application by that candidate to attempt the Part 2 examination.
The Part 1 examination is held in the British Isles and at selected overseas centres in March and September. The examination is in basic and applied sciences and consists of two papers, each lasting two hours, that have a combination of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and extended matching questions (EMQs).
The examination covers those subjects which form part of the general education of any specialist and particularly those subjects which are applicable to obstetrics and gynaecology.
Candidates may take the Part 1 examination at any time and must pass it or obtain exemption from it before attempting the Part 2 examination.
Method of Application
To avoid confusion candidates must use the same surname (preferred or family name) and other names, as shown on their medical degree, in all correspondence with the College. Candidates wishing to enter under a name other than that shown on their medical degree must also provide their certificate of medical registration showing the name by which they wish to be registered as a candidate.
Candidates who subsequently change their name(s) for whatever reason must immediately inform the College with documentary evidence. A marriage certificate alone is not accepted as evidence of change of name as a medical practitioner.
Application for entry to the examination must be made on the prescribed form appended to these Regulations or available by clicking here. The form with the correct entry fee, in pounds sterling, must reach the College by the following closing dates:
1 December for the March examination, or
1 June for the September examination
Exemption from Part 1 Examination
All exemptions from MRCOG Part 1 have now been discontinued and no exemption applications will now be accepted. For further details on the reasons for this, see here .
Candidates who gained Part 1 exemption before it closed on 1 st January 2007 , will have the usual ten-year period within which to sit Part 2 for the first time. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |
