Epileptic women can be reassured that they don’t have an increased risk of having a baby with congenital abnormalities once they have stopped antiepileptic medication 2 years before conception.
Vit K should be administered for a minimum period of 6 weeks before delivery to prevent Haemorrhagic disease of newborn.
Randomized trails have proved that 5 mg folic acid taken by epileptic women reduces the incidence of congenital abnormalities.
50 % women experience increased seizure frequency during pregnancy.
COCP is not safe contraceptive for women taking sodium valproate. |

Estimation of salivary anticonvulsant conc is more reliable than estimation of blood concentration in monitoring drug dosage.
IUGR is a recognized feature in mothers taking antiepileptic medication. |
