I hate this DIC business
well the answer is TRUE
I will briefly give u my understanding.
Factor VII is activated in extrinsic pathway of clotting cascade.
Both extrinsic and intrinsic pathways ultimately cause activation of factor X to Xa which causes activation of prothrombin to thrombin and thus in turn convert fibrinogen into fibrin
DIC is related to excess release of thrombin in system. Consumption of platelets, clotting factors lead to bleeding, Increased FDP also lead to bleeding while fibrin platelet clumps cause thrombosis end organ damage...
DIC
low platelet count
prolonged PT, APTT
low fibrinogen
increased fibrin degradation products. |

You need to search the Forum Hadia - this has been discussed before in this thread. We also have a sticky - click here - that asks you to do this. It stops repetition and helps people search in the future. The more repetitive posts we have the harder this becomes.
I am closing this.
Hadia - I have also sent you a personal mail asking you to not post single questions directly from the Past Paper book. Please also read our rules on this and carefully consider what you post.
If you have a look at Bluesky's posts you can see they contain a question from the book but ion the context of other questions he has made up. This allows others to learn and helps get the discussion going which is the key to success. It is no good having one answer about Factor VII when the topic clearly relates to the coagulation profile and how this is affected in DIC. If you read up and learn about this you will:
a. help others
b. learn about the topic
c. ensure you remember these facts (or at least boost your chances of doing so)
d. have a better chance of passing the EMCQ as whilst this may come up again there and you will get a mark there will be several other related questions that you will also get correct
Make sense?
I am sorry but I deleted several of your posts that were single stem questions from the book that had not been answered. You had made two seperate posts regarding Rubella for example! This does not and cannot help any discussion. This 'free' Forum is not a vehicle for a series of True / False answers to the College's copyright publication. There are other websites that offer that - not us. I am not happy about people doing this as you can see. I hope you understand and repsect my wishes and the Forum rules.
I have copyright from the College to 'discuss' these questions and not to simply provide answers - that is what they want you to do. It must be done in an educational manner.
