Hi humera
It has been in the 'useful website' Forum for a long time. November of last year to be precise
Click here to see the thread and associated links.
I'll leave this thread open as well because you are quite right that this is a better place to discuss the Guideline. _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997

| Quote: | | CIN extending to the margins at excision results in higher incidence of recurrence but does not justify repeat excision as long as no evidence of glandular abnormality or invasion or under 50 years |
Meaning: if the margins post excision biopsy were not cleared, she need not go for a another colposcopic directed excision biopsy to complete the margins? |

that's right, as long as there is no glandular element to the tissue and the patient is under 50 yrs of age, we do not need to repeat the cone.
in our unit we call them for 6 monthly colpo + smear for 2 years, if these remain normal then yearly smear with the GP.

Even if its CIN 2 or 3?
Colposcopy for 6 months there after and smear at the same time? for 2 years? What does the guideline say? |

this is a quote from the BSCCP guideline
| Quote: |
women treated with high grade disease (CIN 2, CIN 3, cGIN) require6 and 12 month follow-up cytology and annual cytology for the
subsequent nine years at least, before returning to screening at the
routine interval (high risk follow-up)
women treated for low grade disease require 6, 12 and 24 month
follow-up cytology. If all results are negative, then women may be
returned to screening at the routine interval (low risk follow-up). |
| Quote: | | All women who do not have negative test results after treatment must be recolposcoped at least once within 12 months (100%). |
so if high grade i.e. CIN 2/3 -- smear + colpo atleast once in first 1 yr.
they need yearly smears untill 10 completed years.
in our unit we see high grade lesions 6 monthly for colpo + smear untill 2 years. ( stick to the guidelines though for the exam ).
