hi
came across this interesting article Neurology. 2007;69:536-545.
... ( yes have been reading a bit for lack of having anything better to do whilst on call ).
women who drank more than 3 cups of coffee per day have less decline during 4 years of follow-up compared with those who drank a cup or less. However, no such effect was seen in men.
all u blokes can now blame lack of helpful caffeine effects when u forget a household chore.
other take home points from this study were...
1. Caffeine intake does not have an effect on incident of dementia.
2. higher caffeine intake may improve long-term memory performance and locomotor speed but not short-term memory, information processing, planning and attention.
