How about ...

"This refers to changes in the neck of the womb that, if left untreated, over a long period of time, and we are talking 10 to 20 years, may, and I stress 'may', become cancerous in some women"

And you can subsequnetly add when the time is right ...

"So it is a good thing that you had your smear and that we have found these changes as it allows us to treat you and to monitor you for the next 10* years to make sure that you remain well and that you do not develop cancer".

* change to 1-2 years if low grade disease

And if asked about the degree, which is unlikely, and she has CIN III ...

"There are different degrees of abnormality and your result puts you in the higher risk group but I stress again we can treat this and even without treatment most women do not develop cancer".

What do you do when she asks you how she got these changes?

What if she does not ask you this? How would you finish the consultation if this is not addressed?
