The etiology of preeclampsia has not been precisely elucidated, although it is thought to involve placental ischemia and activation of thromboxane. The current meta-analysis suggests that antiplatelet therapy among pregnant women can have a moderate effect in reducing the risk for preeclampsia, birth before 34 weeks' gestation, or serious adverse outcomes of pregnancy.
