|
|
Preeclampsia occurs in as many as 8% of pregnancies and as many as 15% of maternal deaths worldwide are caused by hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The etiology of preeclampsia has not been precisely elucidated, although it is thought to involve placental ischemia and activation of thromboxane.
The current meta-analysis suggests that antiplatelet therapy among pregnant women can have a moderate effect in reducing the risk for preeclampsia, birth before 34 weeks' gestation, or serious adverse outcomes of pregnancy. Antiplatelet therapy was not associated with significant adverse events.
