Reference- Weeks, Andrew D., Fiala, Christian & Safar, Peter- .Misoprostol and the debate over off-label drug use. BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology 112 (3), 269-272

Summary of the status of six drugs for particular clinical indications. Licensing information is taken from Medicines Compendium 2003 (ABPI). In the 'BNF' column, drugs get a tick if mentioned as a management option under that drugs entry in the British National Formulary.11 In the 'RCOG' column, a tick is obtained if the drug is mentioned as an option in Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists guidelines (or that of an approved affiliate in the case of PPH).

Drug and indication

2. Misoprostol for termination of pregnancy before 24 weeks Arrow Licensed X BNF RCOG

3. Antenatal betamethasone to prevent neonatal respiratory distress syndrome in premature deliveries Arrow LicensedX BNF X RCOG

Excellent work asha.

I've changed the title to 'licensed drugs in O&G' as this is too good a psot to hide away - hope that is OK. (changed back now as I have seen you have posted more questions and at least this allows us to discuss each drug in more detail should we need / want to do so).

It is interesting, to say the least, that the only drugs the BNF and RCOG can agree on are not licensed!! Shocked

Shocked
.

The MCQs could remain here this way so that we are able to discuss each drug in more detail should we need / want to do so.

The table of drugs and licensing information could go to Key facts in O&G with the title "licensed drugs in O&G' since you feel this is too good a post to hide away. Do you want me to do that?
