|
|
The RCOG have announced their New Format for the Part 1 MRCOG Examination
I am sure you all know but the MRCOG Part 1 is changing with effect from this September's exam (2007).
The Part 1 is aimed at basic science in Obstetrics and Gynaecology but specifically its application. Extended Matching Questions (EMQs) will be introduced as a better way of testing this and will provide only 20% of the overall marks.
The questions have been significantly updated and the new exam will set questions that are mapped against each module of the core training programme.
The make up of the Exam has changed therefore as the College outline ...
| RCOG wrote: | EMQs will follow the MCQs in the two papers, in the same question booklet but with an additional answer sheet.
As with the MCQ format, there will be no negative marking, that is to say, no marks will be deducted for incorrect answers.
The current value of each correct MCQ answer remains the same. Each correct EMQ answer will be worth the same number of marks as 3 correct MCQ answers.
The timetable will be unchanged, that is, two papers of two hours each, with a lunch break.
Time management is candidates' responsibility, but we recommend spending approximately 96 minutes on the MCQs and 24 minutes on the EMQs. |
Each two-hour paper of the new ( September 2007 onwards ) Part 1 examination will consist of:
MCQ - 48 five-part questions (240 individual question items) MCQ
EMQ - 20 individual question items (7-10 two-part or three-part questions) _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |

Todays RCOG News confirmed the above ...
| Quote: | We are pleased to announce that, following extensive revision of the current question bank, a new Part 1 MRCOG syllabus has been defined with applied clinical science knowledge mapped against the modules of the core training curriculum. This new syllabus will shortly be available on the College website.
The Part 1 examination will use this from September 2007 and will also include some extended matched questions (EMQs).
Further information about the benefits of EMQs, the new marking scheme and examples of the format, are available here on our website, and in our other publications (your last RCOG News and the forthcoming TOG). |
So... there you go ... EMQs are taking over the world! _________________ "Teale Fenning Medical Education" delivering evidence-based, exam-orientated learning since 1997 |
